Social prescribing: Midlands Learning Together
September 14, 2021 Tags: community leadership, opportunities, social prescribingFrom September 2021 to March 2022, the National Academy for Social Prescribing is running ‘Midlands Learning Together’ – a free and flexible programme of learning, sharing and networking opportunities, aimed at people in leadership roles within community organisations.
What is social prescribing?
Social prescribing connects people to practical and emotional community support, through social prescribing link workers, who are based in GP practices and take referrals from all local agencies. Link workers have time to build relationships, focus on the individual, create a shared plan and introduce people to community support. It is especially helpful for people who have long-term health conditions, need support with their mental health, have complex social needs or are lonely or isolated.
With Midlands Learning Together, participants can join as many sessions as they wish from a range of interactive webinars, networking sessions, small group workshops and information updates.
Topics covered in relation to social prescribing include financial wellbeing, arts and culture, children and young people, physical activity, engagement barriers and the natural environment. Places are limited to one per organisation, and applications are welcomed from volunteer services, food banks, grass root activities, local and national charities, faith groups, housing services, money and advice services, museums, user-led organisations, link workers, local area coordinators – and more.
